We stayed in the summer during a heatwave so while it was pleasant, this hotel did not have air conditioning so it was very tough for us to sleep at night.  We had fans in the rooms and this helped only a little.  There was only one bathroom and everything was clean.  Location was quite good as it was walking distance to the main areas (guess you can say this about most Amsterdam hotels).  The biggest issue for us was that the stair cases were narrow and you needed squeeze your baggage up and down the stairs which was really tough and not fun.

We were provided fantastic service by Manager Yaziza and her crew, BUT our month-long stay was made a total nightmare by the slamming outside door of the 5 Block which houses the laundry and our unit. Staff (and other 5  Block residents) necessarily went out many, many times during the day. However, each time the heavy metal door slams shuts, it is sounds literally like a close-range gunshot, shaking the walls and window of our apartment. I know it is a fire door but this needs to be fixed, especially given YAYS' price point.  Unfortunately, there were no other rooms available so we were good and stuck. As good as the service was, I would ask for another part of the building unless you like feeling you live in east LA. 

Avoid Block 5 of YAYS Prince Island

 Good  location  for cental. Good size.  Very clean.    Bathroom  floor can get very wet. Unfortunately  we couldn't  check in online  but could check in at sister property.   Key electronic  on . smart phone.  Don't let charge run out!!  Inogen was very helpful re check in!

Apartment in a strategic location 3 minutes walk from the central and bustling Haarlemmerstraat. You can walk to the central places of Amsterdam and still it is well connected to the buses that take you three minutes walk, It is located in front of a canal and so it is very suggestive. It consists of a living room, with equipped kitchen including the microwave. Large bathroom. But the bedrooms are under a parking lot and with two small windows, so it is not very bright.

Strategic position

This was our first visit to Amsterdam.  We went with our two children aged 12 & 9.  We wanted a good base to explore the city in a safe location, with space to make breakfast, somewhere to relax in the evening and close the Amsterdam central. We stayed in apartment 1D which is right next to the front door.  We could hear the front door click but not in an obtrusive way.

For what we were looking for it was a really good option. I was really worried about some of the recent reviews but we didn't need to worry.  We are from the UK and would say the apartment is comparable with say Premier Inn in the UK. It has what you need, not high end, very comfy bed, in the right location. The bed only has one pillow per person which we thought was a bit tight of Yays but actually I have to say we found the pillows really comfy!  I would say the apartment was clean. But it wasn't spotless, there are marks on the wallpaper and the skirting boards are scuffed but it wasn't dirty as some reviews suggested. There aren't beautiful views or any sense of luxury but that wasn't what we were looking for. There is a train track nearby.  The noise didn't cause any issue for us and my son loved watching different trains coming past.  There is a local restaurant which is a bit noisy in the evenings with chatter and laughter rather than any trouble. It didn't pose any problems for us but if you needed it to be very quiet to sleep it might be something to consider.

The kitchen has a good supply of tea bags and coffee pods.  There is a combi oven which we have no experience of but we managed to use it to cook a pizza on the first day.  There are a set of manuals on the Yays App which was really handy. The bathroom had liquid soap, shower gel, and shampoo all of which smelt nice and were provided in big bottles.  The is no hair conditioner though.  There was both a great shower and a nice big bath.  There is also a hairdryer in the bathroom (rather basic but does the job) and there is a full length mirror in the hallway.

The lounge had chairs/sofa that were comfy enough and the TV had Netflix so we could watch something with the kids when they were exhausted from exploring.

All in all Yays Prince Island was everything we wanted until the last night. We stayed Tuesday to Saturday. During the week there were other young families. We could hear a child running around above us but it caused no problem. However Friday night saw a group of lads join below us who were there to drink and smoke and noisy karaoke girls next door who stopped the kids sleeping for a while.  The weather wasn't terribly hot whilst we were there so we could happily close the windows to stop the smoke.  However the temperature control didn't have any effect reducing the temperature so in high heat it might have been more of an issue for us. I think Yays have provided a good offering and it is hit and miss whether other people impact your stay.  If I was coming again with children I would not stay at the weekend.

We used WhatsApp to communicate with Yays which was really effective.  Our safe was locked on arrival by the previous guests. Yays sent someone out to fix the issue and they arrived in about 30 minutes.  The staff we spoke to were all super helpful with amazing English.

I was really glad we didn't pay for outside space because it really wasn't a very nice outside space but I think it is easy to see that from the website.

We had no issues with the self check in or with the electronic key. I forwarded the email to my husband and son and they were able to add the key to their phones too.  The WiFi was also easy to access and had good signal whilst we were there.

We had a great stay and the apartment was everything that we needed.

Great apartment for exploring Amsterdam 

This place was a huge disappointment. While the location was good, near everything and on a quiet street, pretty much everything else was awful. The until itself was on the ground floor and very hot. They provided fans, but will no windows at the back of the unit it was unbearable and felt like a cave. There is also very little privacy with people outside our unit most of the night on the shared terrace.  The unit was dirty and not well equipped.  The appliances are in very bad shape, including a stove that barely works and a broken dishwasher. We never got clean towels in the four nights we stayed there. 

We also had issues with the cardless entry and had to walk over for keys (that did work either). It all just seems very cheap at this price point. 

I don't typically write reviews, but this is possibly the worst accommodation my family has ever stayed in.

Pretty Terrible

Let this be your warning…DO NOT book a unit at this property. Unless you’re into staying somewhere that hasn’t been truly cleaned in month. After a long day of travel, arrived to find it absolutely FILTHY.  I wouldn’t leave my dog to stay here. Old food stuck to walls, on tables, grease dripping down the backsplash, cobwebs in EVERY room that had to have been there for months! No one even wanted to sit on anything, because it was all so filthy. We took several pictures of the condition and contacted their 24/7 support ( there is no one on site).  I sent the pics, they AGREED it was filthy. But also said no one was there to clean it, sorry.  They would send someone the next day.  There was NO CHANCE I was staying in that unit for even a couple hours, much less overnight. And the cleaning job required?? It would need a crew, and it would take ALL DAY to deep clean. I was prepared to have my entire family sleep in the car, as it would have been cleaner. 

They offered another unit, it was EQUALLY as FILTHY! Took pics of that one too. 

These units have zero oversight by a manager, or anyone to make sure they are upholding any level of cleaning. standards. 

To top it all off?! They are charging us for our FULL STAY! We spent all of about 30 minutes visiting 2 units to TRY and work with them, finding a clean place to stay, and ultimately had to leave. At 7pm at night, with my entire family, with NO place to stay in Amsterdam in June. 

In my YEARS of owning businesses and providing customer service, I cannot imagine treating someone like this. Not making this right. DO NOT STAY AT THIS PROPERTY. They will take your money and don’t care at all that their units look like a dirty frat house. 

I honestly don’t know how these people sleep at night, taking money for units in such poor condition.

The apartment was spacious and in a quiet area. It was by no means dirty, but could have benefited from a deep clean.  The shower was very powerful and beds were comfy. The electronic key system was good, no issues at all.  It was walking distance from town and near to tram stop as well.

Decent apartment

We stayed here with our kids ages 12 and 14. The apartment was great, clean and spacious for us all and we walked to most places. 
The only negatives are that you only get 1 small pillow each and are charged if you want more and the room is a bit echoey.  The apartment could do with rugs and soft furnishings.  Otherwise we loved it. 
You can walk to Haarlemidijk which is a few mins away.  There’s a bakery, supermarket and theres a fab restaurant called eet cafe rosereijn. Lovely atmosphere and good food.

Great for a family and break

Lovely apartment. Clean and spacious. Well equipped kitchen - the only thing missing for us was a toaster! The bathroom was large with a separate toilet and handbasin which was very helpful. Nice toiletries in situ which we had not expected. Quiet neighbourhood which meant we rested well. Good location just a ten minute walk from the central train station. A really comfortable stay. Would definitely book again.
