Having seen plenty of previous reviews of Sam Vondel we were fully anticipating walking into a family of rats and staying in fairly unclean accommodation. Out experience couldn't have been more different - our room was spotless (there were four of us, with our own private bathroom), the beds were super comfy and there was even a TV, fridge and hair dryer provided. Checking in was easy - beforehand the owner sent us the door code to get in and the keys were already waiting for us in the room's door.

The only thing that lets this place down is the shower. It is completely broken (one sliding door has come off its hinges) so water inevitably ends up going EVERYWHERE which was quite annoying. We were only provided with one shower mat which never had enough time to dry, so it was constantly sodden. 

All in all, for the price we paid we were really happy with our stay at Sam Vondel. Great location, warm and cosy, close to the park and the center of town is within walking distance or easily accessible by tram. Thank you! x 

Great stay, could do with a couple of updates

We had a great stay and the place was spotless. Beds were comfy and the location is fantastic. This was the last stop on a month trop and it was perfect. Restaurants and stores all around. Will stay again.

Good location but parking expensive

My is not a feedback but a real complaint. Below is a list of all the problems encountered at the aforementioned hotel facility: - I arrived on the day of check-in (although a few minutes early) and the facility was completely closed. No answer to the phone number to give information or anything else. Finally they answered us after an hour. - So I entered the facility no one who welcomed us to tell us what the room was, the conditions and all the other things that are done in a normal hotel; - no cleaning in three days, even though we had not booked an Airbnb facility or a B&B but a hotel property facility; mice rolled toiletries for three days in 3 days.

Let's sleep with the tops

Basic, but in itself perfect! Optimal location compared to the centre, with bus stops right next to the hotel. A few steps from bicycle parking lots, (if you want to rent), a few steps from Lidl, Jumbo... in other words, close to everything else! Modest room, questionable cleaning, but definitely good quality/price ratio! The room is typical Dutch, perfect for immersing yourself in the city mood! Recommended!

Basic, but perfect!

We recently booked to stay at Sam vondel for one night in September, we already thought it was very expensive as it was 130 pounds for one night, no offence but it’s a 2 star hotel, but I suppose you pay for the location, the hotel was pay at property, yet the money came out straight away, not only once but twice, more was also added onto the bill without any communication of this, an extra 4 pounds to each transaction. As someone who lives hand to mouth I couldn’t afford for this money to be out of my account for long as I had bills to pay, we tried to contact booking. Com who weren’t really much help, it was like trying to get blood from a stone getting in touch with them, so we contacted the hotel directly, to which the manager himself answered, he fobbed us off saying he was in a meeting and he would sort it, this is the last we heard of him, not a phone call or an email or anything. After a few days of waiting I decided to phone my bank to see if they could do anything, to which they investigated it and I had the money back the next working day, we have now cancelled the booking altogether and found somewhere a million times better for a fraction of the price, I’m not trying to say this was all done perposely but nobody from the hotel was slightly bothered and absolutely nothing was done to help. Book and stay at your own risk... 

Keep your money!!! 

We arrived in Amsterdam early in the morning at 6:00 a.m. We were sitting under the door at the door and didn't know what we were going to do... because with the suitcases we were going to look at and order our room for free, we were asked to leave our luggage before the settlement, which should be at 2:00 p.m. The owner replied that there was such a possibility. What was our surprise when the door to the hotel was closed and no one answered the phone calls. By the start of the 10:00 a.m. we were sitting under the door on the street, and we didn't know what we were going to do... because with the suitcases we weren't going to look at and order our room for free.

Real price-quality ratio

Do not book here if you want a room when you arrive. After a hellish day flight being cancelled and having to travel the length of the UK we arrive 12 hours later than expected. We booked through booking.com and had printed confirmation. Upon arrival there was no reception had to ring the number on our confirmation to be told there was a problem and that we no longer had a room as they never received any confirmation. I always book through booking.com and never had an issue. We were in the middle of Amsterdam 20:30 at night no hotel on one of the busiest weekends of the year. 

We went in the Concious hotel next door explained the situation to the lovely staff there. Who gave us a free bottle of prosseco and told us we could use there space spend as much time to try and find a solution. They sat with us and helped us look for alternatives we ended up sourcing a room in their sister hotel.

Didn't provide us with a room after confirmation

We have had a great stay at Sam Vondel. The owner welcomed us in a friendly manner, and gave us some useful tipps for ths transport connections and other. The hotel is very clean and in a good location. K&R

Clean place and very friendly owner

the price was ok but the service was not. I SPECIFICALLY requested a room with a refrigerator because I was going to be buying some perishable food. The room did in fact have a refrigerator but it was broken.  Ergo, I had to throw away all of the food which went bad (30 Euro).  The manager did not respond to my written request for assistance.  The beds were uncomfortable and the window would not close because the latch was broken.  There was lots of noise from the traffic.

adequate but not great

I found a hotel on booking with photos and positive reviews. Instead it was not a hotel but a rented room. Waiting for arrival. Lack of desk and info. No map. Large and comfortable room but abb dirty and unattended. Closet with broken drawers. 1 only towels on the head. 1 only towel and no other blanket. Heating not working. To avoid or take without too many claims
